COMMON
QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS
How
much time will I have to commit to as the model?
This
depends largely on the size of the piece, and the level
of detail and accuracy desired. For any sculpture, a minimum
of two modelling sessions are usually necessary during the
actual sculpting process, one at the beginning to establish
a pose and take reference photos and measurements, and another
at the end to double check the work and get client feedback
and approval. For two dimensional pieces, all work can potentially
be done from a good photo, but meeting the model in person
at least once will much improve the quality of the portrait.
For larger scale sculptural pieces, the model may need to
be present for two or three additional sessions during the
course of sculpting. Sessions usually run two to three hours,
with frequent breaks, depending on what the model is capable
of. For small scale pieces, we may be able to bring the
sculpture or drawing to the model, for large scale pieces,
the model will have to travel to the piece. Check Travel
for the current studio location.
Will
the final piece really look like the model?
Joshua
Diedrich is an extremely skilled portraitist as well as
a figure sculptor and anatomist. During the course of producing
the piece, he will take many measurements of the model's
body to insure accuracy, and may take life-molds of more
complex features like faces and hands which will produce
perfect reproductions of the model's body to work from.
The piece will resemble the model as closely as you want
it to.
I'm
not entirely happy with my body right now, can you make
some minor changes?
The
most important factor in any portrait is that you feel it
depicts you in a way you are happy being portrayed. There
is always a little bit of room to work with to ensure that
you feel flattered by the final product. This said, many
people are very critical about their unusual features, although
others close to them may find the same features attractive
or even endearing. I strongly believe that most people's
bodies are much more beautiful than they imagine them to
be themselves, and that all the differences and unique features
of the body are both an important part of your physical
identity, and a vital element to create a portrait of the
highest quality.
Can
you depict me at a different age than I am right now?
This
is easier in sculpture than in two dimensional media, but
is usually possible, depending on how radically your appearance
may have changed since that age, and how much photographic
reference you are able to provide of your body at that age.
Any photos or other reference materials you might have of
your body at the age you are thinking of are of course extremely
helpful. Due to the extra challenge of doing this type of
portraiture, both the time involved as well as the cost
may both increase.
Do
you do portraits of men as well?
Of
course. This site is directed primarily at women because
the vast majority of our models are women-- it's simply
something many more women are interested in than men. However,
everything stated or offered on this site can equally be
applied to anyone interested celebrating their body. We
offer a wide range of art and sculpture services at the
main site www.joshuadiedrich.com.
Can
you do couples, or groups of people, or people with their
animals etc.?
Yes.
We can produce whatever kind of artwork you are looking
for, from individual to group portraits, from full, candid
nudity to more modest or partially clothed poses, from classical
to wildlife and nature themed.
If
my portrait is damaged can you repair or replace it?
Bronze
sculpture is extremely durable and is usually very difficult
to damage. Repairs tend to be minor and inexpensive. In
the event of the destruction or loss of a piece, we keep
a master artist's proof of every sculpture created- a backup
copy that a replica can be easily produced from. All sculptures
can usually be reproduced for a substantially lower cost
than the original- see the pricing page for duplicate pricing.
Two dimensional work is by its nature more fragile, and
more difficult to repair or replace. Damaged or lost two-dimensional
work may need to be reproduced from scratch.
We stand behind our work, and guarantee it against defects
in workmanship. |
