Sculpture (415)

Working from a live model,
beginning or advanced students in this class will
have the opportunity to explore the three-dimensional
figure from a wide variety of approaches. The class
will cover all aspects of modelling a figure from
clay, including: armatures and support structures,
form, basic anatomy, gesture, grace, expression, and
clay modelling technique. Students may also work independently
in methods they are already comfortable with. No experience
or advanced knowledge of sculpture or the figure is
necessary. This class will be spirited, personalized,
and very beneficial to anyone who wants to deepen
their understanding of the human form for two or three
dimensional work. Students will need a basic set of
modeling tools, list available from the registrar’s
office. |

Prerequisite: Beginning Drawing or equivalent skill
level
This class is designed
for the beginner or advanced student who is fascinated
by the human form. Students may draw or paint in whatever
materials they are already comfortable using. Personalized
critiques and lessons will be provided for all, as
well as more general lessons in lighting, basic anatomy,
gesture, expression, line, etc. Every class will offer
highly individualized opportunities for expression
and growth in technique as an artist. This class will
focus on medium to longer poses to allow students
to really explore the figure in depth and produce
high-quality finished work. This will be a fun, lively
class that will broaden your skills as an artist and
deepen your understanding of the human body. Students
should bring their own drawing materials to the first
class. Recommended supplies list is available from
the registrar’s office. |
| Animal
and Wildlife Sculpture (419)

In this class students will
learn the sculpture techniques used by professionals
to create dynamic, believable animal and wildlife
sculpture. The class will cover all aspects of modeling
an animal figure from clay, including armatures and
support structures, form, basic anatomy, gesture,
movement, and clay modeling technique. Students may
work on the animal of their choice; however, the lessons
will focus on four-legged mammals and primates. To
work together as a class, choosing an animal of one
of these types is strongly encouraged. No experience
or advanced knowledge of sculpture or anatomy is necessary.
This class will be fun, personalized, and a great
way to learn more about wildlife, comparative anatomy,
or create high-quality statuette of a pet. Students
will need a basic set of modeling tools, available
through the school at the first class. |
